When you look in the mirror what do you see?

Scripture Text: Genesis 1:27 – "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

We are uniquely and wonderfully made in the image of God and after his likeness. God made us in his image and he wants us to embody his characteristics. Even natural parents want their children to have their good qualities. We are important to God. His love for us is so great that when humankind moved too far from him, he sent his son Jesus to reconcile humankind back to himself. The Creator of heaven and earth cares about us! He is concerned about what we are going through. Let that sink in to your spirit for a few minutes! That is reassuring and comforting to know just how much he loves us. Not only is he concerned about us, but he nudges us in the right direction when we deviate off the right path.

Sometimes we feel like giving up and we lose our connection to God. It is not that he left us, but that we left him. We must remain connected to him. He patiently waits for us to come to that realization and reconnect with him. He will never leave us. God is our power source and without him we have no power. Jesus states in St. John 15:4-5, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

There is nothing that can separate us from God’s love. The Apostle Paul asked the question in Romans 8:35. It states, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” The Apostle Paul emphatically answers his own question in Romans 8:37 where he states, “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come.” If God is on our side, there is nothing that we can’t face and overcome. God examines our hearts. He knows that we are not perfect. Sometimes we disappoint our families and friends, and those situations may cause a fracture. Often, we can’t revive those lost friendships or relationships with those individuals. We can always start over with God. Just remember, he is not just a God of a second chance. He is a God of continual chances. When you forget who you are, pick up a mirror and just remember that God thought so much about us that he created us in his image.
